NHS England: '2.7 million people were referred for cancer checks in the last year'.
Referrals for suspected cancer have increased according to NHS England.
The latest figures from NHS England suggest that 2.7 million people, a record number, have been referred for cancer checks in the twelve months up to February this year. The pre-pandemic figure was 2.4 million so that feels to some like progress or at least a sign that we are catching up with some of the cases missed during the pandemic.
However, at least 30,000 people are still waiting to start treatment. Justin Webb spoke to NHS England's National Clinical Director for Cancer, Professor Peter Johnson.
