US diplomat: War must leave Russia weaker
The West must put pressure on Moscow so both current and future Russian leaders see that invading Ukraine left the country weaker, the US ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has said.
Michael Carpenter said US and its allies must impose 鈥渕assive consequences鈥� on Russia to ensure stability in the future.
鈥淲e warned the world that this was coming,鈥� said Mr Carpenter, 鈥渨e also told the Kremlin in no uncertain terms that there would be massive and unprecedented repercussions鈥�.
鈥淯nfortunately it looks like the Kremlin didn鈥檛 believe us or concluded that somehow it could get away with this sort of massive invasion鈥�.
