US diplomat: War must leave Russia weaker
The West must put pressure on Moscow so both current and future Russian leaders see that invading Ukraine left the country weaker, the US ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has said.
Michael Carpenter said US and its allies must impose “massive consequences” on Russia to ensure stability in the future.
“We warned the world that this was coming,” said Mr Carpenter, “we also told the Kremlin in no uncertain terms that there would be massive and unprecedented repercussions”.
“Unfortunately it looks like the Kremlin didn’t believe us or concluded that somehow it could get away with this sort of massive invasion”.
