Ukraine escalation "as serious as Cuban Missile Crisis"
General Sir Richard Shirreff, Former Deputy Supreme Commander of NATO speaks to Today
President Putin has ordered Russian forces into two areas of Ukraine controlled by Moscow-backed rebels - in a significant escalation of the Ukraine crisis. He signed a decree saying the troops would "keep the peace" in Donetsk and Luhansk - which he'd earlier recognised as independent territories. Hours after the order, reports from Donetsk said convoys of tanks had entered the main city. Western nations have been quick to condemn the latest developments.
Today's Justin Webb speaks to General Sir Richard Shirreff, Former Deputy Supreme Commander of NATO, as well as Sajid Javid, Health Secretary. Today's Simon Jack speaks to Kurt Volker, former United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations and US Ambassador to NATO. The 91热爆's Chief International Correspondent, Lyse Doucet also gives analysis of the current situation.
