'Police state' fear over new law
Robert Buckland, Baroness Chakrabarti & Baroness Cavendish on the Policing and Crime Bill
The Lords will debate the crime and police bill that among other things makes protesting more difficult and in some cases gives the home secretary the right to ban more protests and creates a new offence of blocking roads and railways with a prison sentence attached.
Crossbench peer Baroness Cavendish, who worked for David Cameron, fears the new law means the UK is "sleep walking into a police state" with the plans. We also hear from Labour's Baroness Chakrabarti and Conservative former Justice Secretary Robert Buckland.
