Progesterone recommended to prevent early miscarriages

Health watchdog NICE has recommended a new treatment for miscarriages

There's fresh hope for women who experience a number of miscarriages early on in their pregnancy. The health watchdog NICE is recommending the use of the hormone progesterone which helps strengthen the lining of the womb. It's estimated that one in four pregnancies are lost - mostly in the first three months.

The advice is based on research done in the PRISM trial. Today鈥檚 Martha Kearney spoke to one of the women who took part in the trial, Faye Smith. Also speaking on the programme is Professor Gillian Leng who鈥檚 the Chief Executive of NICE.
