The forgotten Gunpowder Plot papers

Documents detailing the investigation into the Gunpowder Plot written in November 1605 and stored in Somerset since then have been brought to light for the first time.

The papers detail the investigation into the conspiracy, led by Edward Phelips. Edward was the Speaker of the House of Commons at the time of the plot and lived in the grand stately home he built at Montacute near Yeovil, now in the hands of the National Trust.

Finding a line about them in an old book belonging to his late grandfather, 91热爆 Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor followed a trail through the National Trust and National Archives which led him to the Heritage Centre near Taunton. The original papers have been stored by the heritage service since the 1930s and Charlie is the first person since then to ask to see them in detail.

The Chief Executive of the South West Heritage Trust Tom Mayberry agreed to meet Charlie to show him the papers - but only after he'd had a chance to look into them for himself!
