There has been an air of crisis in British policing in the past few weeks as it faces a great moment of reckoning. Some 2,000 allegations of sexual misconduct including rape have been levelled against serving officers over the last four years, according to data released under freedom of information rules.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner at the Metropolitan Police, Bas Javid, responds to the account of one woman who says she was sexually harassed by an officer who should have been documenting her mugging.
