Shaun Ryder: 'It explained why I couldn’t learn like other people'
Shaun Ryder told 91Èȱ¬ Radio 5 Live's Nihal Arthanayake what it was like when he found out he had ADHD as an adult.
"It was like a light being turned on," he said.
The singer-songwriter said he had always struggled to read, learning the alphabet in his late twenties. He said it was annoying when people would blame his bad memory on drug taking.
“I don’t retain information," he said. "My memory had always been like that."
An estimated nine million adults in the UK struggle to read and write. 91Èȱ¬ 5 Live's 'Word Matters' project aims to encourage people to talk about adult literacy.
