Aid gets through to Tigray
In Ethiopia, rebel activity in the north of the country continues. The latest is that the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) rebels have filtered out of Tigray into Amhara state and seized the town of Lalibela, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Meanwhile, the Ethiopian government has said that more than 150 trucks carrying humanitarian aid have arrived in the Tigray region's capital, Mekelle. The convoy had been held up for weeks because of security concerns in the region after renewed fighting between government and Tigrayan forces.
The UN has warned that 400,000 civilians in Tigray are experiencing catastrophic levels of hunger.
Newsday spoke to Adele Khodr from UNICEF in Addis Ababa about the devastation.
