South Africa: Will Jacob Zuma go to jail?
South Africa's former president, Jacob Zuma, must hand himself over to police today or face being arrested. Last week the country's constitutional court sentenced him to a 15-month jail term for contempt of court. That's after he ignored court orders to give evidence at a corruption inquiry. Mr Zuma's lawyers have been appealing to a court in Pietermaritzburg to block the proceedings. Pierre De Vos is a constitutional law professor from University of Cape Town, who's also written about this in his blog Constitutionally Speaking. So can this appeal stop Mr Zuma going to jail?
