Would you know if your dog had lungworm?
The coronavirus pandemic has led to many people wanting to get a dog for companionship during lockdown - charities such as The Kennel Club saw a 168% increase in enquiries from dog owners, whilst the RSPCA has seen a 600% increase in visits to puppy fostering pages.
But there are concerns that inexperienced dog owners might not be aware of the infections and parasites their pets can pick up - things like lungworm.
Bailey, a five-month-old retriever puppy from Croydon, was diagnosed with the lungworm parasite in May. Bailey passed away the next day as the lungworm infection had already become too significant for his body to recover.
