Railway services: 'Private sector will deliver future improvements'
What does new public body, Great British Railways, mean for passengers?
Rail passengers should see more punctual services and cheaper tickets as part of the biggest shake up of UK's railways since privatisation, government officials said.
The new state-owned body, Great British Railways (GBR), will set timetables, prices, sell tickets in England and manage rail infrastructure.
Today's business editor Dominic O'Connell spoke to the architect of the new plan for rail Keith Williams, who said they aim to centralise the operational control of the rail network for passenger success but private companies still need to be involved to deliver future improvements.
Martha Kearney is joined by Mick Lynch, general secretary of the rail union, the RMT and Grant Shapps, secretary of state for transport.
