Singer Tom Grennan has opened up to 91Èȱ¬ Radio 5 Live about how his dyslexia affected him at school and how he "found his own way" of learning to read and write.

As part of 91Èȱ¬ Radio 5 Live's new project 'Word Matters' - looking into the estimated 9 million adults in the UK who struggle with low levels of literacy - Tom revealed to 5 Live's Nihal Arthanayake how he was "scared to read on his own" at school.

"When I read a book...the words will just be jumbled up, I'll be going over and over the same line for ages and... I feel like that probably affected my behaviour at school too."

The singer explained how his teachers helped him to "beat the fear" of reading and speaking in front of people.

"When you have it [dyslexia], it is a struggle because you don't feel like you're normal, you don't feel like you can do things, you don't feel like you're clever... well that's just rubbish. I've found my way around learning, Tom added.
