Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine ‘shows slow Covid spread’
Andrew Pollard and Matt Hancock talk to Justin Webb.
For the first time, a study by the University of Oxford showed the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine may reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
The data, which has not been peer reviewed, measured the impact on transmission by testing for asymptomatic infections, swabbing participants every week in addition to recording when anyone fell ill with Covid-19. The study found the vaccine offered 76% effective protection from a single dose for three months.
Today programme's Justin Webb spoke to Andrew Pollard, head of the Oxford Vaccine Group and Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, for more details.
