India bans export of one of the Covid-19 vaccines
The largest manufacturer of vaccines in the world is India's Serum Institute and.many hopes in the middle income world rely on supply from there, but the Indian government has banned it from exporting the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine for several months.
It has, along with one developed by Bharat Biotech, been authorised for use in the country. India has confirmed more than 10.3 million cases of Covid-19, second in the world behind the US, and there have been over 149,000 deaths.
Professor Srinath Reddy is President of the Public Health Foundation of India, and a cardiologist and epidemiologist.
