'Every day, there's a mental struggle, to come to terms with what happened to me, how I feel now and how I was before'
Martha Kearney spoke to children's writer Michael Rosen about recovering from Long Covid
The children's author Michael Rosen spoke to Martha Kearney about his experiences of 2020 and his recovery from a life threatening case of Covid-19. He spent 47 days on a ventilator after being admitted to hospital in March and was put into an induced coma. After the infection he had to undergo a long journey to rehabilitation, which involved learning to walk unaided again. When asked how the experience has changed him, he said: "Every day, there's a mental struggle, to come to terms with what happened to me, how I feel now and how I was before. I'm constantly running to and fro in my mind, I keep trying to set my mind at peace, and rest it, and find distractions." He added: "Some of it I think is almost like a bereavement, that I'm regretting the loss of the person I was."
