China declares war on food waste
The Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, has launched a campaign targeting a new enemy of the country: food waste.
Starting the gun for the Clean Plate Campaign, he said the 鈥渋mpact of this year鈥檚 Covid-19 pandemic has sounded the alarm.鈥
This comes after weeks of mass flooding across the country wiped out crops, contributing to rising food prices.
But with centuries of devastating famines leaving a mark on Chinese relationship with food, ordering and cooking more than you can eat is seen as a sign of prosperity and good luck.
