'It's taking hours and hours of our time to individually track and trace to ensure that we are keeping school safe'

Headteacher Kevin Sexton says NHS Track and Trace is taking too long to contact pupils

Across the UK Covid-19 infections are rising and the First Minister of Scotland is expected to announce further restrictions today, to slow the spread of the virus. Kevin Sexton is a headteacher at Chesterfield High School in Crosby, Liverpool. He told Martha Kearney: "Most of the staff we have off are still waiting for test results, Track and Trace sometimes is taking days to get an answer from the helplines and it's taking hours and hours of our time to individually track and trace to ensure that we are maintaining safety. That's time that's actually taking over weekends, late into the evenings and I think it's putting undue stress on children and staff." With Calum Semple, professor of child health and outbreak medicine at the University of Liverpool, who attends meetings of the government's scientific advisory group.
