‘I suspect the R number will not be under 1 by Christmas’
Epidemiologist Professor John Edmunds says stricter Covid measures may be needed
New restrictions to control the spread of coronavirus in England have exposed a split among scientists. Professor John Edmunds, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, told Justin Webb that although the measures were “welcome”, in his view they did not go "anywhere near far enough". When asked if there was a realistic chance the R could be brought under 1 by Christmas, he said: "I suspect not. There's a chance, of course there's a chance."
