‘Do not believe these newspaper stories, there are tests in every bit of the country’

Matt Hancock says that tests are available if only those who are eligible ask for them

New England-wide measures which could see hospitality businesses shut are being considered by the UK government to slow a surge of coronavirus cases. A short period of national rules - a "circuit break" of a few weeks - could be announced in the next week, 91ȱ political editor Laura Kuenssberg said. Schools and most workplaces would be kept open during those weeks. The health secretary Matt Hancock told Justin Webb: “‘Do not believe these stories when they are appear in newspapers, saying there aren’t tests available here, there are tests available in every bit of the country” but added, “if you have symptoms, please come forward, but if you don’t, don’t, unless you have been specifically asked to.” With analysis from 91ȱ Political Editor, Laura Kuenssberg.
