Poulenc' - "half monk and half naughty boy" according to a music critic - wrote his first ballet 'The Darlings' in 1924. He said to fellow composer Stranvinsky: "... my ballet will have no subject – simply dances..." But what jazzy mayhem with a group of young people in a house party on a summer afternoon!
