‘If you want children to catch up, it can’t just be over the month of August, it has to be longer term over the academic year’
Education Minister Nick Gibb on how to help pupils make up for missed schooling
The Education Minister, Nick Gibb, told Mishal Husain that headteachers will have discretion to use funding to help the most disadvantaged pupils. This could include additional time in school over the summer. Mr Gibb was speaking ahead of the Education Secretary announcing a billion pound fund to help children across England catch up with the teaching they have missed because of the lockdown. The money will be made available from September and can be used to provide tutors for the most disadvantaged pupils. However funding will not be available for early years providers and those involved in education for 16 to 19-year-olds.
