The Exorcist: A Catholic priest on the increasing demand for deliverance and exorcism
In March, the actor Max von Sydow, who played the part of Father Lankester Merrin in The Exorcist died at the age of 90. The film with its dramatic exorcism of Ragan, a 12 year old girl possessed by the devil, had a huge impact on audiences when it was released in the 1970s.
Curiously, over the last few decades Catholic priests have faced an increasing demand for deliverance and exorcism, not just in the developing world but in Britain and the United States.
Mike Powell met one of the Catholic Church's exorcists to find out more about why he became an exorcist. This priest prefered to remain anonymous.
