Unclassified Live with Anna Meredith and Darkstar

Anna Meredith and Darkstar discuss their performances at the Unclassified Live concert

Composer Anna Meredith and electronic duo Darkstar talk about their performance at Unclassified Live.

Unclassified Live is a collaboration between the Southbank Centre, the conductor Andre de Ridder (who has worked with Damon Albarn, The National and Arcade Fire) and Radio 3’s Unclassified programme, presented by Elizabeth Alker.

Unclassified is a new show for Thursday nights on Radio 3, which explores the work of composers and musicians who might have a classical background or who take inspiration from classical music but who are also reaching out into other areas of music; electronic, pop, rock, and jazz music.

Unclassified Live is a live concert version of the radio show and it sees artists featured on the show brought together with the 91Èȱ¬ Concert Orchestra and the Southbank Sinfonia to have their music arranged for and performed by a full orchestra in front of an audience at the Southbank. It’s an exploration of music that blurs genre lines and which can’t be categorised and it’s also a chance to hear this music made to sound even more powerful with a full orchestra.

The first concert is this Sunday (29th September) and it sees Anna Meredith, Darkstar and Nicole Lizee team up with the Southbank Sinfonia. There’ll be live vocals and electronics from Darkstar and Anna Meredith and there’ll also be visuals by the artist Ewan Morris Jones. Andre de Ridder will be conducting the orchestra, Elizabeth Alker presents and tickets are available through the Southbank website.
