Oxbridge & private schools

Do Oxford and Cambridge use unofficial quota systems on private school pupils?

The headmaster of one of the country's top private schools has complained that Cambridge University places effective quotas on the numbers of private school pupils.

Andrew Halls, headmaster of King's College School, Wimbledon, says the admissions system was based on "politically driven quotas".

But Lee Elliot Major, professor of social mobility at The University of Exeter, says this is false and Oxford and Cambridge should do more to admit pupils from state schools.
