Religion in school assemblies

Should collective worship be part of school assemblies?

Lee and Lizanne Harris will be going to the High Court in the autumn to challenge the idea of collective worship in mainstream schools. Lee and Lizanne Harris' children no longer attend school assemblies that focus on Bible stories. Daily collective worship of a broadly Christian character is a statutory requirement in all publicly funded schools in England and Wales under a law introduced in 1945. The Harris' challenge is being paid for by Humanists UK which campaigns for a secular state.
