In Uganda, 6,000 members of a new security force called Local Defence Units are have been trained since last year and are ready to start work. They have been recruited to help stem a wave of urban crime and a number of high profile killings.

The force is made up of mostly young people recruited from the community and trained by the army. They will be armed to carry out patrols and gather intelligence around Kampala.

Last year, President Yoweri Museveni promised to make the capital safer. So, what do people in the city make of the new force?
