In his latest series he examines the Japanese gardens and the seasons and ceremonies that shape them.
Monty Don, Celebrity Gardener:
[On living locally]
"I went to school at a funny little boarding school in Crowthorne called Bigshotte School, and I lived in a funny little place in Hampshire near Odiham.
"When we went over into Berkshire the soil became acidic soil [so much more different to life in Hampshire] and I've never been able to grow those plants since.
[On Japan]
"We're talking about azaleas and camellias, and pines... the whole vocabulary of plants is so different to ours."
