HMP/YOI Portland prison officer says 'we're heading straight for another Strangeways'
On a day that the Prison Officers Association (POA) General Secretary Steve Gillan called for all members in England & Wales to take protest action outside their workplaces, one HMP/YOI Portland prison officer has told us 'I've had my arms broken in the past, my eyeballs ruptured and I've been assaulted half a dozen times inside there'. The POA claims the prison service is in crisis with unprecedented levels of violence and is calling for greater protection measures for its staff.
