'You hear the word cancer and you fear the worst'
It must be a moment that every parent dreads; hearing the words 'your child has cancer'. But survival rates are improving. Poole Hospital is the specialist paediatric centre in the county and nine out of every ten children diagnosed with leukaemia there will now survive the disease. Internationally the survival rate is 87%.
Dr Mark Tighe spoke to Steve Harris. The paediatric consultant at Poole Hospital says that research has 'become a model for other programmes' and explains how treatment has developed over the years.
