How Tom Watson got ‘lucky’ at the 1975 Open at Carnoustie
Five times Open champion Tom Watson has revealed how a piece of heather gave him ‘good luck’ before his victory at the 1975 Championship at Carnoustie. Watson explained how a young Scottish girl approached him with the gift on his way to the course, where he clinched the first of his five Open titles. Watson told 5 live Sportsweek ‘it did bring me luck’; it was ‘the sweetest thing’ as he kept the heather in his bag where it stayed ‘for two years.’
