Kevin's enjoyment-themed Desert Island Disco
"All of these songs are about enjoyment.â€
Kevin is from Rowley Regis, near Birmingham.
He told us:
“I love music and always tap to the beat of any song, I think I fidget to a rhythm. I played keyboards in a covers band for almost 30 years. We played mostly in social clubs but also parties and weddings. I pretty much arranged all the songs we did. I was always listening to any song to see if we could cover it. However, sometimes I can be too analytical rather than just enjoying music for what it is. All of these songs are about enjoyment.â€
Featuring:
• The Players Association – Turn The Music Up
• Fingerprintz – The Beat Escape
• Loose Ends – Hangin’ On A String
• Incognito feat. Jocelyn Brown – Always There
• The Ones – Flawless
• Daft Punk – Get Lucky
The Players Association – Turn The Music Up: “A disco record with a difference. I loved the rhythm guitar track and the brass on this song, the brass seems more South American than the usual disco songs of that time.â€
Fingerprintz – The Beat Escape: “I picked up on this from a compilation cassette from a music magazine back in the day.â€
Loose Ends – Hangin’ On A String: “From about 1982 to 1986, soul and dance music filled a big chunk of my musical tastes. This was my clubbing era when me and some friends would go to Christopher's American 2 in Kingswinford and hear British Soul and Pop and some new US records which weren't being played elsewhere. It was great to have a British soul band like Loose Ends making great music. I loved the Nick Martinelli production. This was also a golden era for Jam and Lewis productions, the sound that became even more well-known later on Janet Jackson albums.â€
The Ones – Flawless: “I heard Sara Cox play this on a Radio 1 show and immediately fell in love with it."
Incognito – Always There: "I can't say I'm a massive jazz fan but I always give it a listen. This has a fantastic feel good vibe and guaranteed to make me smile no matter what.â€
Daft Punk – Get Lucky: “It's just one if the best pop songs of the decade. I'm a massive fan of Nile Rodgers, his guitar work is second to none.â€
