New data protection laws

Companies risk large fines if they mishandle or misuse data

New rules governing how personal data can be collected and used have now come into force. The General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, will apply across the EU, and will remain in force in the UK after Brexit. Companies risk large fines if they hold information without consent.

The Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, says companies need to move forward with their new obligations.
