Should art treasures be returned?

The auction of a rare Chinese water vessel sparks a debate about returning 'stolen' art

Vicky Price, who is Greek by birth and has campaigned for the return of the 'Elgin Marbles', and Professor Mary Beard debate whether 'plundered art' should ever be returned to the country of origin.

There has been a long-term bid to return the so-called Elgin Marbles from Britain to Greece. But the issue of whether treasures belong in the country of origin has been raised again after the recent auction of a rare sacred Chinese water vessel which was taken by a British soldier during the capture of Beijing's Old Summer Palace more than 150 years ago. The Chinese government say that it was taken illegally from their country during the Opium Wars.
