It was the only way to save my family
Raghad Haddad is a Syrian refugee who was recently granted asylum in the UK. She made the decision not to return to Syria two years ago, while playing the viola as part of a musical tour of Europe. However, it meant leaving her husband and child behind, as the so called Islamic State arrived in their home town, close to Damascus.
Raghad spoke to Newsday after playing at a concert for peace in London and begins by explaining what life was like before she left Syria.
