The ice of Pyeongchang is a far cry from the Ghanaian city of Kumasi, where Akwasi Frimpong grew up as a child before following his mother to Holland as an illegal immigrant.

Since then, he's overcome numerous obstacles whilst chasing his dream of competing in the Olympics.

Having finally become a legal citizen in the Netherlands, Akwasi was on course to qualify for London 2012 - only for his hopes to be shattered by an Achilles injury.

He then swapped the track for ice, setting his sights on the Dutch national bobsleigh team for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, 2014, but missed the cut.

Now, the 31-year-old is representing Ghana and will be the first black skeleton athlete in the history of the Winter Olympics.

And Akwasi says it means the world to him, having grown up with so little.
