The volunteers who keep an eye on the busy Solent
Around the coast of the UK, a network of volunteers are keeping a visual watch over what's happening at sea, and along the coast.
Manned by a total of 2000 volunteers there are 50 national Coastwatch Institution lookouts in the UK, 8 of which are in Hampshire, Dorset and on the Isle of Wight. One which is at Lee on the Solent.
Terry Wilson, one of the original National Coastwatch volunteers has written a book charting the history of the station with proceeds from the sale of the book going back into running the lookout. It's available from local libraries in Lee and from the headquarters at the beach car park.
Neil Sackley has been to meet Terry and some more of the volunteers.
