'My vagina tried to kill me'

Comedian Amy Vreeke was diagnosed with endometriosis and wrote a comedy show about her condition to help challenge taboos. The 26-year-old from Manchester has endometriosis, and was only diagnosed after years of being wrongly told she had everything from IBS to an STI, and much more in between.

She only realised what she had after reading Lena Dunham鈥檚 autobiography, in which the Girls writer described her own symptoms and struggles with endometriosis.

Amy is hoping her candid material and discussions about her body and condition will encourage more women to have conversations about their periods and their symptoms.

鈥淭he reason why people aren鈥檛 diagnosed for so long is because women don鈥檛 feel comfortable talking about it, because they don鈥檛 know if they can or if they鈥檒l be judged or if it鈥檚 going to create a weird atmosphere,鈥 she says.

鈥淲e need to not have that atmosphere around discussing subjects like that.鈥
