Scrap Trident? But what happens to the money?
After journalist Peter Hitchens made the case for not renewing the UK's Trident system in a personal film, the chair of the defence select committee, Julian Lewis, said the money saved would not be guaranteed to go back into defence spending.
Conservative MP Mr Lewis said the UK was already not spending enough on defence and Britain would lose its "ultimate defence insurance policy".
Mail on Sunday commentator Mr Hitchens said Britain had to grow up and realise it was "an important country but we are not a superpower".
