From maths teacher to weightlifter
Secondary school maths teacher Lucille Rowan from Northern Ireland decided to try her hand at weightlifting at the age of 49. She says when she first entered the gym she expected to be “lifting the little weights,” but discovered she could actually deadlift 95 kilos. A year on, Lucille is competing all over the globe and has won three Commonwealth medals.
She says there was “a lot of shock from colleagues and students” and that the sport has left her feeling “much stronger, leaner and much more toned.”
