A 16-year-old Palestinian girl, who has a history of protesting against Israel, has been charged with assaulting Israeli soldiers near her home in the occupied West Bank. She has appeared in a military court. Film of Ahed Tamimi and her cousin pushing and kicking two soldiers has been widely shared on social media by Palestinians who see her as a hero. The altercation has reopened the debate about the treatment of children in the judicial system in the Palestinian areas, where they are subject to military court trials.
