The England cricket team were already without their talismanic all-rounder Ben Stokes for the Ashes series in Australia. He was arrested in September on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after an altercation outside a nightclub.

Against that background, two minor incidents on the tour itself, have seen the media in Australia and the UK competing for stories about England鈥檚 status as a team of boozers, running a rolling stag party from state to state and scattering the Ashes hopes of a nation along the way.
