Food Friday - Boozy Festive Swirls

This week, the perfect alternative to a mince from Hazel Paterson.

The perfect alternative to a mince pie:

Ingredients:

2 handfuls mixed dried fruit
100ml brandy/whisky/golden rum
1 x 375g ready rolled puff pastry sheet
350g mince meat (I used Aldi Luxury)
Generous sprinkling cinnamon, around 3-4 teaspoons
Zest 1 orange
3 tablespoons unrefined Demerara sugar
Beaten egg to glaze
200g wholenut milk chocolate (or white chocolate)
Decorative toppings such as chocolate stars, caramel curls etc

Method:

1: The day before soak the dried mixed fruit in the alcohol and leave overnight.

2: Heat oven to 170C. Roll out pastry to flat sheet and cover with the mince meat then sprinkle over the soaked fruit, cinnamon, zest and sugar. Brush with egg on all sides.

3: Roll up carefully like an arctic roll then slice into 1 inch rounds. Place rounds on roasting tray which has a sheet of baking paper in it.

4: Bake for 15-18 mins, checking after 15 minutes, you want them golden brown.

5: Melt chocolate. Once swirls are baked, allow them to cool completely then top with melted chocolate and decorate. Leave to cool and set completely before eating.
