Injured by war but still an Ironman
Kerry Gruson was a journalist, who worked for the New York Times and Miami Herald. On her way to report on the Vietnam War, Kerry stopped in Hawaii to interview a Green Beret who had returned from the conflict. During the interview, the soldier suffered a PTSD flashback and strangled Kerry. The attack left Kerry paralysed and her vocal chords severely damaged.
Despite her disability, Kerry competes in endurance races, thanks to the assistance of her race partner Caryn Lubetsky, who pulls and pushes her around the course.
They paired up again this week to tell Sportshour their story.
