‘My arachnophobia turned into a love for tarantulas’
New defence secretary Gavin Williamson, who replaced Sir Michael Fallon, keeps a pet tarantula on his desk. It's called Cronus after the Greek Titan who castrated his father and ate his own children. He’s previously spoken of using it to keep backbench MPs in line.
Tarantula owner Cassandra Tainsh shares the former chief whip’s love of eight-legged creatures.
She told 5 live’s Anna Foster she used to be terrified of spiders when she was younger, but she bought a tarantula to face her fears.
