Michael Lake from Virginia, USA, deliberately infects himself with hookworms in a bid to cure his allergies. Dr Sheena Cruickshank, an immunologist from the University of Manchester, UK, is working with intestinal worms to find out whether can help us stay healthy, but explains why she thinks self-administering the parasites is not advisable.
