Universal credit arrives in Gloucestershire
Charities & housing associations say they will help people with the transition.
It's the biggest overhaul of the benefits system since the 1940's - and it's coming to the county, next week. Universal Credit merges six existing benefits into one monthly payment - and is being introduced across the UK.
It'll include tax credits, housing benefit, income support, Jobseeker's Allowance, and employment and support allowance. The Government says the new system will encourage people into work, because it reflects the way working people are paid.
But it's caused BIG problems in places like Somerset such as payment delays and a rise in rent arrears. So -charities and housing associations in Gloucestershire are assuring people they can help if problems arise.
