'Our job is to be an honest peace broker'
The UN special envoy to Syria says a new approach to the conflict is needed
More than 400,000 people killed in six years of fighting and many more injured. Eleven million people forced to flee from their homes and join the vast army of desperate refugees. This week, the United Nations security council met once again to decide what can be done to help bring the Syrian war to an end.
The UN special envoy to Syria Staffan De Mistura has said a new approach is needed to put the people of Syria first. He tells John Humphrys only with an inclusive, credible election Syria will be reconstructed. "Raqqa will probably be free by the end of October and Daesh (so-called Islamic State) heavily under control."
