Politicians on the NHS frontline

Two MPs continue to work shifts at the NHS alongside their job as an MP

Two MPs – one a nurse and one an emergency doctor - have been continuing to work shifts at the NHS alongside their job as MPs.

Maria Caulfield is the MP for Lewes and a nurse at the Royal Marsden in London. She tells Mishal Husain: "I usually do two shifts a week... as a nurse you have to do a minimum amount of hours to keep your registration." She adds: "It's been a really getting good first hand experience on the changes in the NHS."

Dr Rosena Allin-Khan is the MP for Tooting and an emergency trauma doctor at St George’s Hospital Tooting. She says: "I helped during August last year, I worked two shifts during the Christmas recess, I worked Good Friday, I worked Easter Sunday and now this summer... I see the situation in our NHS is getting worse."
