The 'global significance' of Dunkirk
Movie 'Dunkirk' tells the story of evacuation of virtually the entire British Army
A new movie tells the story of the rescue of more than 300,000 trapped Allied soldiers from destruction at the hands of the Nazis by an extraordinary seaborne evacuation from Dunkirk.
Josh Levine, historical consultant on the film, tells Today: "It was an evacuation of virtually the entire British Army, if the British Army hadn't got back Britain would have had to surrender."
Emma Thomas, producer of 'Dunkirk', says: "It really felt like the Dunkirk evacuation was a story that hasn't really been dealt with by modern cinema and it felt like a strange gap."
